As a hard-working drill, the consumable parts on the Smartroc D65 take a lot of punishment over time. MASPRO supplies a wide range of compatible replacement parts and assemblies for Epiroc’s surface and underground drills, including the mast, feed, breakout, centralising and rotation units.

More than just OEM quality

While MASPRO makes many parts directly compatible with OEM, over the years their re-engineering facility has also enhanced the design of high-volume parts where recurring issues have been identified.

Investigating
Recurring
Problems

“If we see repeat problems on parts, our engineers will investigate a solution. For example we noticed some issues with the D65 DHR-6 Rotation Unit which were resulting in catastrophic failures. In some cases this caused up to $12,000 in damage.”

“After testing and analysis based on this feedback from our clients, our engineers redesigned the gearbox which largely eliminated the problem and led to better performance overall.”
Martin Kennard, MASPRO Sales Manager

More than just OEM quality

While MASPRO makes many parts directly compatible with OEM, over the years their re-engineering facility has also enhanced the design of high-volume parts where recurring issues have been identified. Martin Kennard, MASPRO Sales Manager, explains.

A hugely popular improvement, this design enhancement is now offered as standard with the part.

Innovations realised in months not years

“Because we have local manufacturing and in-house re-engineering capabilities, MASPRO can turn design enhancements around in two or three months. Whereas with a global OEM manufacturer, ideas like this could take two or three years to go through the process needed to bring them to market.”

Rope ain’t rope

Another example of an effective innovation is in the material used for the feed ropes for the D65.

“After regularly replacing standard rope that had stretched and loosened over time, we scoured the world for a better solution.”

“We unearthed a new rope manufactured in Germany that is specifically engineered for drilling, has excellent shock absorption, and stretches less than any other rope we’ve had. These ropes have been tested in the field for the last 5 or 6 years and we’ve had nothing but good feedback on them.”

All-in-one kits save time and hassle

As well as offering complete new units, MASPRO creates convenient all-in-one kits for common maintenance tasks such as sealing kits for the rotation units in the top gearbox of the Epiroc D65 and other drills.

“Whether the rotation unit just needs a reseal or a full overhaul, our kits include all the parts, components, fasteners, bearings and seals needed. So if a client wants to rebuild their own rotation unit, rather than send it to us to rebuild, their maintenance engineer can grab the kit off the shelf and have it all at their fingertips.”

Breakout jaws with more bite and lower costs

“MASPRO redesigned the breakout jaws for the Epiroc Surface Rigs in 2010. Working with our client Barrick Gold Lake Cowal site, we came up with a one piece saw with hardened serrated teeth that gave more gripping area than the OEM’s 2-piece design at a massive cost reduction. We also offer an optional tungsten insert jaw.”

“Our client recalls that MASPRO was the first company to design the breakout jaws and sees us leading the market for redesigned parts.”

Centraliser and breakout cylinder live ends

“MASPRO offers a live end for hydraulic cylinders which includes a new rod, piston, head gland and seal kit all assembled and ready to insert into a barrel. This saves a lot of time and labour costs on site as it avoids having to disassemble and replace the majority of parts and then reassemble.”

In addition to the Epiroc Smartroc D65, MASPRO supplies a range of replacement consumable parts for drills like the Epiroc T30 and T45, F9 and L8, and hundreds of parts suitable for use with major brands like Sandvik.

Without the global corporation overheads and markups, and with local manufacturing and warehousing, MASPRO can deliver OEM quality for less.
